ORF

Austrian broadcasting organization, started to broadcast August 1st, 1955. Founded as RAVAG in 1924. When appearing as producer or for visual credits, please use ORF (2) LC 11428 In 1967 Gerd Bacher was elected as general director, who started to modernize national Austrian TV and radio with a very diverse program. Bacher hired Erich Sokol to design a CI (Corporate identy) for the broadcaster. At the same time, he structured TV & radio in pop, local and cultural channels, that are still in existence today. In all regional capitols, new broadcasting stations were built after plans of Gustav Peichl, even to have an architectural concept for the new state-fund broadcasting organzation. Bacher supported uncommercial cultural productions to show the variety of arts in national TV and radio. He served as general director from 1967 to 1992 with short interruptions. Bacher structured ORF 1967 the following way: Radio: Ö1, news, cultural and science channel Radio Österreich 1 broacasted from ORF Funkhaus Ö2 - regional broadcast from all 9 Austrian provinces, studios built from 1967 to 2001 ORF Radio Steiermark broadcasted from ORF Studio Steiermark ORF Radio Niederösterreich broadcasted from ORF Studio Niederösterreich ORF Radio Burgenland broadcasted from ORF Studio Burgenland ORF Radio Tirol broadcasted from ORF Studio Tirol ORF Radio Wien broadcasted from ORF Studio Vienna, located in ORF Funkhaus ORF Radio Vorarlberg broadcasted from ORF Studio Vorarlberg ORF Radio Oberösterreich broadcasted from ORF Studio Oberösterreich ORF Radio Kärnten broadcasted from ORF Studio Klagenfurt ORF Radio Salzburg broadcasted from ORF Studio Salzburg Ö3 - founded 1967 as channel for younger audience, nowadays Austria's biggest pop radio station, also broadcasting the sales charts.
