Snarky Puppy, superkapela napříč žánry, je podobná svému rodnému městu Dallasu. Na albu Empire Central je tento eklektický devatenáctičlenný elektro ansámbl velký a odvážný, pohodový a uvolněný, zakořeněný v místní kultuře, ale přesto zaměřený na budoucnost. S 16 novými skladbami, včetně písně "Take It!" - bohužel poslední nahrávky funkové hvězdy 80. let Bernarda Wrighta, kterého lídr Snarky Michael League popisuje jako božskou postavu - se skupina s láskou ohlíží za svými počátky a je si jistá vybroušenou energií, s níž její členové pokračují v budování jedinečného zvuku Snarky Puppy.

Tento zvuk se nyní tyčí jako mrakodrap z orchestru 21. století, který tvoří tři kytaristé, nejméně čtyři klávesisté, dva dechaři, dva hráči na dechové nástroje, houslista, několik bubeníků a perkusistů a zkušený, ale skromný League, který to všechno drží pohromadě svou baskytarou. Když se v roce 2004 poprvé sešlo deset kamarádů zapsaných do jazzového programu na Severotexaské univerzitě (alias North Texas State) v Dentonu, 30 mil od Dallasu, bylo toto složení nepředstavitelné. Když se však jádro Snarky Puppy přestěhovalo do města a bylo přijato tamními černošskými církvemi a hudebníky, dozrálo.

"Náš zvukový svět se během let dramaticky rozšířil," říká League.

"Když kapela začínala, byli jsme jazzovější, inteligentnější a orientovaní na world music. Když jsme se dostali na dallaskou scénu, stali jsme se groovovějšími, emotivnějšími a v některých ohledech hlubšími. Více jsme se soustředili na to, abychom předali jasné sdělení, které by bylo pro posluchače srozumitelné, aniž bychom věci banalizovali." Se třinácti alby za osmnáct let (která získala čtyři ceny Grammy), mezinárodní fanouškovskou základnou a založením vlastního labelu GroundUP Music Snarky Puppy dokázali, že je posluchači budou následovat do stále jistějších a detailnějších aranží hymnických motivů, rozmáchlých melodií, strukturovaných harmonií, vzrušujících sól, uši drásajících syntezátorových efektů a hybných beatů.
