Bývaly doby, kdy se čtyři roky, které GNR potřebovali na vydání debutu Appetite For Destruction z roku 1987, považovaly za příliš dlouhé. Aby to kapela napravila, vydala v září 1991 ne jedno, ale hned dvě nová dvojalba. Mezi šestnácti skladbami je středobodem alba jedenáctiminutový epický singl "November Rain", dále "Don't Cry", "The Garden" s hostujícím Alice Cooperem a coververze klasiky Jamese Bonda "Live And Let Die" od Wings. Album debutovalo ve Státech na druhém místě a nyní je sedmkrát platinové, z první příčky ho sesadilo doprovodné album Use Your Illusion II. Podle recenze časopisu Rolling Stone The Guns "pálí na všechny příchozí a neberou zajatce". Na Use Your Illusion se podílel Axl Dizzy Reed na klávesy a bývalý bubeník Cultu Matt Sorum, který nahradil zakládajícího člena Stevena Adlera, stejně jako zakládající členové Slash, Duff McKagan a Izzy Stradlin, kteří krátce po vydání alb odešli.
